There are many definitions of the word "myth." Most of these connote "untruth," but not the ones I usually use. In the following quote, it is used as a synonym for falsehood. For the purposes of this post, I will use it in the same way...
In his masterful work entitled Story, screenwriting-guru Robert McKee observes: “With rare exceptions, unrecognized genius is a myth.” (p.14)
Which of course explains why most Hollywood films are of exceptional quality and substance.

For a man so right about so many things (and he IS so right about so many things), it is almost inconceivable that he could be so blind on this point.
The entire world is, and has always been, rigged against brilliant new ideas and innovation. Without an incredible amount of perseverance and endurance on the part of the geniuses, their light would never, never, EVER be seen.
Unrecognized genius is the most common kind of genius there is. And nowhere is it more unrecognized than in the entertainment and publishing industries, which excel almost exclusively at first missing the boat, and then copy-catting the geniuses that FANS have recognized and made famous.
